Americans love going to the movies. Americans also love cars. It is no wonder there are so many fantastic films that either focus on or feature cars, especially race cars with tricked-out add-ons. Which movie is your favorite? We put together a list of some of our top car-themed movies, in no particular order:
Smokey and the Bandit. In this classic film, The Bandit is hired to drive a tractor trailer full of beer over state lines, in hot pursuit by a pesky sheriff. Good thing he has such an awesome car to help him with his mission!
Gone in 60 Seconds. A car thief is forced to steal 50 luxury vehicles in one night in order to save the life of his brother. Sounds like it would be pretty fun, right? No wonder people love this film so much – plus, it has an A-list cast.
Fast and Furious. You knew this was going to be on the list, right? This film was the beginning of a mega-franchise. It all started with street racing and grew into movies that people absolutely love to watch. Of course, the amount of incredible souped-up cars in the movies didn’t hurt.
The Cannonball Run. This movie also features illegal street racing, although this time it is across the entire country. High-tech weapons? A Ferrari? Secret disguises? Characters willing to do everything to win? This movie has everything!
Cars. Kids love cars too! Of course, this Disney film has been super popular for over a decade, even spawning a few follow-up films as well.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. We just had to include this comedy on here. Will Ferrell made race car driving something truly hilarious, and we just haven’t been able to watch NASCAR the same ever since!
Christine. While Talladega Nights proved that cars can be funny and Cars proved that cars could be cute, Christine proved that cars can be downright scary!
Drive. This one is relatively new but has gotten a lot of praise and good reviews since it came out a few years ago. Who doesn’t like to fantasize about what it would be like to get to drive as fast as possible – and actually make a lot of money for it???
Mad Max. Again, this movie was so popular, it had several sequels. People can’t get enough of the idea of driving across the desert in a post-apocalyptic world, your vehicle being the tool you use to save yourself.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. While this one technically isn’t about a car, a car does present itself as a major plot point. What would you do if your son and his friends took your fancy new car for a joy ride? What would you do when you were a teenager if your dad had a Ferrari? It’s fun to imagine!
What do you think of our list? Do you agree? Do you have more to add? One thing is for sure- it sure is fun to talk about, and watch, cars!
